Now that the Griswold Airport property is protected, Audubon is working with Connecticut DEP and US Fish and Wildlife Service to protect another addition to Barn Island Wildlife Management Area in Stonington. The 16-acre property features a dozen pairs of nesting Bobolink, nesting Savannah Sparrows and is used by Saltmarsh Sparrows. This parcel is a key buffer for tidal marsh along Wequetequock Cove and offers landward migration potential for the marsh as sea levels rise.
